From One Family Wedding to a Passion for Love Stories

Hi, I'm Eric Tomalá. I believe your wedding ceremony shouldn't be just a formality before the party. It should be one of the most meaningful moments of your day — a moment that reflects your love, your values, and the journey that brought you together.

My journey as a wedding officiant began when a relative asked me to officiate her wedding. I never imagined that one special request would lead to something much bigger. After that first ceremony, word began to spread. Guests recommended me to friends and family, couples reached out, and what started as a favor for someone I loved gradually became a passion for helping others celebrate one of life's most meaningful milestones.

Today, I'm honored to help couples create memorable wedding ceremonies throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C. Each couple has a unique story, and I believe their ceremony should reflect it — whether it's a simple elopement, a personalized celebration, or a bilingual ceremony in English and Spanish.

For me, the most rewarding part is being there for the moments that matter: the laughter, the emotion, the promises exchanged, and the families coming together to celebrate a new beginning. I never take that responsibility for granted.

Beyond my work as a wedding officiant, I'm also the founder of Open Door DMV, a magazine and business directory dedicated to highlighting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the diverse communities that make the DMV such a special place. Through this work, I've developed an even deeper appreciation for people's stories, cultural traditions, and the connections that bring communities together.

My academic background includes a master's degree in Sociology and bachelor's degrees in Economics and International Business. My education and professional experience have taught me the importance of preparation, organization, and attention to detail. My work in the community has taught me something equally important: every person, every family, and every couple has a story worth celebrating.

Whether you're planning an intimate ceremony or a larger wedding, my goal is to make the experience personal, meaningful, and true to who you are. Your traditions, your values, your culture, and your love story deserve to be part of the moment.

What began as a family favor became a calling. And every time I have the honor of being part of a couple's “I do,” I'm reminded why I started.

Your story, your ceremony

No Two Couples Are Alike. Your Ceremony Shouldn't Be Either.

Every love story is unique, and your wedding ceremony should reflect what makes yours special.

With our Personalized Ceremony package, we'll meet virtually for a one-hour consultation to get to know you as a couple — how you met, what you love about each other, and the traditions, values, and people that matter most to you.

From there, we'll craft a ceremony that feels natural, meaningful, and authentically yours. Whether you envision something romantic, lighthearted, traditional, or short and sweet, we'll help bring your vision to life.

Your ceremony should feel like you, from the first words to the final “I do.” We'll work with you throughout the planning process to help create a moment you and your loved ones will remember.
